Mawlynnong, the Cleanest Village in Asia
Mawlynnnong, a beautiful village which is around 100 kms away from Shillong is entitled as Asia’s cleanest village in Asia in 2003 by Discover India. There is no doubt at all why the village has become the cleanest village in Asia. The village keeps spick & span and cleaner than even most of our houses. There’re many things you can learn from this small village of Meghalaya. Cleanliness is the main key of life in this God’s own Garden. People of this village not only clean their houses but also they sweep the roads and plant trees. This indicates cleanliness is an inseparable part of their lifestyle in Mawlynnong village. One important thing you must keep in your mind during your visit in this village is Plastic bags are banned and smoking is strictly prohibited. You should follow the rules strictly otherwise you have to pay a huge fine.
That’s not all, Mawlynnong is also home to the one and only Living Root Bridges in the World. The bridges are formed by connecting the aerial roots of the Rubber fig tree with another and the bridges have become one of the tourist prime destinations of the state. This site has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
It will be not wrong to say that Mawlinnong village is full of mysterious incredible sites. One more site is Sky View that is a famous attraction of Mawlynnong Village. This viewing tower (made of bamboo) is around 85 feet high. From the top, you can enjoy a bird’s eye view of Banglandesh and India.
