Well, this article is definitely regarding the unusual fact of NE India especially for you. Believe it or not ? Mizoram, one of the states in North Eastern India holds pride in having the World’s Biggest Family. Mr. Ziona Chana hails from Baktwang Village in central Serchhip district, that is around 100 kms to the south of aizawl, the capital of Mizoram. He is the head of the largest family in the world, with 181 members, including 94 children, 14 daughter-in-laws and 33 grandchildren. He was born on 20 July, 1945 and married with Zathiangi, his first wife when he was at the age of 15 and his wife is older than him by three years.

His religious sect has 4,000 members. Ziona is chief of the Christian sect known as “Chana”, which was established by his father in June 1942. Luckily, for Mr Ziona Chana, he belongs to a community where polygamy is allowed. His religious sect has 4,000 members. Chana comes across as a marriage enthusiast and he even married ten women in one year. He wants to take in more wives. He also married poor women from the village so that he can look after them. He, the head of the World’s Largest Family said, “To expand my sect, I am willing to go even to the US to marry.”

Ziona Chana lives with his entire family in a four storey 100-room mansion in his village. He has a double bed room on the ground floor of the mansion and his 39 wives take turns to sleep with him in a rotational manner.

There is a hierarchy amongst Chana’s wives, who share the bed with him. He keeps the youngest women close to his bedroom with the older members of the family sleeping further away. Coming to the food preparation, an enormous amount of food is arranged to feed the entire family: 100 kg of rice, 60 kg of potatoes and 30 chickens.
